As the hype builds for the NFL Draft 2023, football enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the league’s latest crop of superstar athletes. However, this year, the NFL’s is doing things differently.
Besides premiering some of the best prospects in the country, the NFL has another exciting debut in-store – its first officially licensed NFT game, NFL Rivals.
NFL NFTs Kickoff in Web3
On Wednesday, April 26, Mythical Games, developer of the first NFL-licensed NFT game, launched early access to its fantasy football game NFL’s Rivals on Apple’s iOS App Store and Google’s Android Play Store.
NFL’s Rivals is the first of its kind for both Mythical Games and the NFL and is set for a global launch this fall ahead of the new football season. The fantasy football game puts players in the general manager role, where they must make plays, manage athletes, and win against opposing teams.
The rarity, strengths, and other metrics of each NFL athlete’s NFT card vary, resulting in unique pricing based on these factors. The “common” player NFT card costs around $8, whereas “legendary” player NFT cards cost north of thousands of dollars.
According to Mythical CEO John Linden, NFL Rivals reported 150,000 players during its beta, with over $1.6 million in NFT sales. The developer looks to capitalize on the heightened anticipation of the upcoming NFL Draft Day by attracting over 10 million players by the start of the new season.
How would they do it? With events.
